ASMP Houston is proud to present high end retoucher and brand ambassador for Phase One, Pratik Naik of Solstice Retouching. Pratik will share his workflow in Capture One and Photoshop focusing on the unique techniques for color correcting and retouching inspired by his fine art background.

The event will be an intense hands on one day workshop limited to only 10 participants per day. It will be held at Sofia van der Dys Photography Studio on July 17th and 18th from 9am until 5pm. Pratik will be available after class both days to answer questions you may have.

This practical and thorough workshop will teach you how to color correct and retouch images to make them look natural.

You will walk away with the knowledge needed to evaluate an image, envision the end result, plan the process and execute the work to achieve your vision.

Pratik Naik is a high end retoucher based in the United States, specializing in commercial and editorial work and is currently represented by the agency, One Mega Management, out of London, UK.

His proficiency with retouching and Photoshop stems from over 10 years of experience working with clients such as Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Zink, FHM, Cosmopolitan, Maxim, Observer, Papercut and many more.

What you should bring:

  • Laptop or computer with Capture One and Photoshop installed.
  • Wacom tablet (if you have one)
The class curriculum will cover:
  • An overview of the fundamentals of Catalogs and Sessions, and the general pros and cons between each in Capture One.
  • The overview of the most pertinent tools, including color grading options, correcting skin tones, layers,color and exposure tools.
  • Customizing Photoshop for retouching.
  • Flow versus opacity and the relationship between the two for a retouching workflow.
  • Looking at each image and setting up a game plan on tackling each shot.
  • An overview of what a non-destructive workflow means.
  • Dodging and burning: the multiple ways of how to do it as easily as possible.
  • Hair: The multiple ways to tackle hair cleanup.
  • The proper way to heal and clone and the parameters for doing so.
  • Color correcting images and fixing skin tones.
  • Other tools in Photoshop for color grading.
  • Frequency separation: The pros and cons of the technique. When to use it, why it's not always the best, and what it's good for.
